Advertising has got me and now I am in possesion of a new ‘@tab’ brand android tablet. Not the brand I would normally chose, but it does the job as well as any tablet but does not have a mobile phone device. I am now tied to WIFI to do computing on the move. And I am tied to these ‘you have got to have this’ apps that my sister and friends tell me about. Not a happy stance.
I have an old usb trackerball that is almost as old as usb. Today it did not work without unplugging it from its usb to ps2 adaptor and plugging it into a usb hub. I tried software updates and replacing the adaptor, still no luck. I did not want to lose a port on my usb hub to my trackerball. I hoped that it would work ok after powering down and leaving it then powering back up later, with the trackerball in its adapter. This worked! I hope it was just a bug in D-bus and not the need to get a new input device.
I have a new sound output gadget baught at The Great Yorkshire Show ( mostly for farmers ). I plugged it into my system with no batteries, it needs batteries. It ran for a time. I switched it off. Needless to say, now my ordinary speakers don’t work, neither does the new gadget!
There is this simple ogg vorbis player called “ogg123”. In previous versions it used to play music files. You just typed “ogg123 filename.ogg” and it played it. Or to play a directory full of them “ogg123 *” Simple!
As I understand, on a chinese whispers basis, Notion ink, the company that came out with the swanky looking, high spec, Adam Tablet, is due, at the end of this year, to produce a budget android tablet called the Adam II.
